Hello, LO! 👋

The news has been…tough recently. So ready for some happier tails?

30 dogs recently made the flight from Texas to LO as part of a rescue operation that also seeks to raise awareness for the upcoming Lake Oswego School Bond initiative. The connection to the school bond underscores how the proposed measure isn’t just about buildings and classrooms, but also enabling broader community partnerships and humane outcomes.

The pups got some pretty cute local names — like Hallinan, Palisades, Grover and Pacer — and are available for adoption as they settle into their new PNW lives.

Check out the Events section below for more information about the pup rally on October 16th where you can adopt these furry friends and learn more about the school bond.

Making Waves 🏢

Local business news

The Gemini Club has been a regular on the LO entertainment scene for decades — since 1982 to be exact. And you can expect that trend to continue, but with some fresh new takes under new owner, Jackie Karol. Jackie is a former national billiards champion (so prepare to be educated in “pool school”). Jackie has also owned and managed bars, pool halls, and entertainment venues in Colorado, California, and Oregon, so she brings multi-state experience and ideas to the table. Poker, pool school, live music, trivia, brunch, karaoke, and more all make appearances on their upcoming calendar. There really is something for everyone here.

A few of our favorite things

Podcast: Scamanda

Scamanda was my entry point into the true-crime podcast genre. The high-level plot is Amanda Riley, a seemingly devoted wife, mother, and Christian blogger, made a very active showing of her fight with cancer — when, in fact, the entire illness was a lie. Amanda goes deep in her manipulations of her church community for years. It is a pretty shocking tale with the creative lengths it took to keep the story alive.

Book: Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

You’ll be crying in more places than H Mart with this memoir. This is a deeply moving exploration of grief, identity, and the bond between a mother and daughter. Zauner, best known as the lead singer of Japanese Breakfast, reflects on her Korean American upbringing and her mother’s illness, exploring how food became a bridge to her heritage and memories. Highly recommend, especially as the weather becomes more conducive to reflection.
